Based on a recent publication ‘Water Nakba in Palestine: Sustainable Development Goal 6 versus Israeli hydro-hegemony’ (with Zayneb al-Shalalfeh and Fiona Napier), this talk will argue that Zionist settler colonialism in Palestine has used access to water as a mechanism for the expulsion of the Palestinian population and therefore can be seen as a continuous part of the ‘Nakba’. The roots of this process pre-dates the establishment of the State of Israel, but has been most advanced since the Oslo accords. This situation makes impossible the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6: to “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”, without decolonisation.
