The UK Government supports the arms trade through promotion of weapons sales by a large dedicated team of civil servants in the UK Trade and Industry Department. Private companies reap the profits while citizens subsidise jobs and high level commercial support. These weapons are used by repressive regimes to suppress freedom of expression; fuel conflicts and divert precious resources away from development of public services.
